Gardening!

Our after picture!! I am going a little backwards here but this is our starter garden!! We plan on moving our fence up so we can section off some of the backyard for a bigger garden next year. The kids LOVED planting over the past two days. We planted:

strawberries
texas sweet onions
sweet basil
rosemary
broccoli
red bell peppers
tomatoes

Our first order of business was buying everything. It was pretty inexpensive to start the garden. It was under $40 for everything. Our biggest reason for the garden beside saving money in the grocery store is to teach our kids the growing cycle in plants and to eat new things. We have the pickiest eaters and what better way to try something then to nurture it and watch it grow.

We bought these at http://www.theguyswithgreenthumbs.com/ which is the Hidden Falls Nursery. I so so so encourage going to a local nursery. We will be buying a blueberry bush later this week at walmart just because they have huge ones that will produce berries this year. Other than that we will be getting most from the local nursery.

First we planted the strawberries. I can not wait to go on a berry hunt as my oldest says and pick berries right off the front porch.

Gigi with our planted broccoli and onions. The onions we only had room to plant 9 so we will have tons of onions this year because we still have a huge bag of them to plant.

Here is the tomatoes, bell peppers and herbs. I can not wait to see this grow. Watch for updates on our garden!!
